Sadly, in January of this year, a close friend of mine lost her beloved boyfriend, who was a Royal Marine in Afghanistan. Seeing the hurt that this caused not only to her, the families involved, and the feeling it evoked from the people of my home city, Plymouth, I knew I had to do something. My grandfather is also an ex Royal Marine, and his experiences in Orkney have shaped his life so much.

Help For Heroes are a UK based organisation formed to help those wounded in the course of duty to our nation's armed forces. On speaking with my friend, she agreed that a) her boyfriend would have loved the trip I was doing, and b) that H4H were an incredibly worth cause.

So there you go, that's how and why I chose to support Help For Heroes. Whilst the main focus of this trip is the skating, if you can spare any cash to add to the donations pot, that would be awesome. Donations are secure, and by making the most of your UK taxpayer status, you can ensure even more money gets to go to the right place.
